Christmas gifts

On Dec. 24th, 2007, a team from our center went to Alaska Mambaling, a slum area down town Cebu City that burned down 2 years ago. The people there have still not recovered from the loss, and many are malnourished and living in shacks. Friends in Denmark and Cebu gave money in answer to our request to “Make a difference for a poor family this Christmas. Put an extra gift under your Christmas tree”. We requested 500 D.kr. (100 US$) that we would give as monetary gifts to these very needy families.

We made our way on foot, stepping on stones as not to step in the sewage. Their living conditions are terrible. Their stories are of immense struggle and heartbreak — too poor to have their basic needs met. One mother said, “We are always hungry”. The Christmas gifts made a difference, gave them reprieve from their suffering and made this Christmas a wonderful time for them. We want to say “Thank you” to all who gave. May God bless you!

Ditte and Bettina

Ditte and Bettina, two of the Danish students who did their internship with Missionaries of Charity (Mother Theresa) down town Cebu received sponsoring for food from Bettina’s parents who visited them in Cebu. They had collected funds from their friends and family, which made it possible for Ditte and Bettina to help poor families. They asked us for assistance, so Marie and Bruce went with them to the same place where we had delivered the Christmas gifts. Needless to say, these families were so happy to see us again, and received many needed food items for their families.
