Why Cebu, Philippines

Cebu is known as the Queen City of the South and is the second most progressive province in the Philippines. The province is famous for its natural beaches, sweet mangoes, rattan and buri furniture, guitars, lechon (roasted pig) and costume jewelry.

Its capital is Cebu City, the oldest city in the country as a matter of fact, which forms part of the Cebu metropolitan area together with 6 neighboring cities namely, Carcar City, Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Naga City, Bogo, and Talisay City and 6 other municipalities. Staying in Cebu is naturally safe, since it is not located near the typhoon belt nor the earthquake zone. There are no volcanoes on the island.

In November 2000, we started building our missionary team there, having been invited by friends. Though Cebu is a progressive city, and fast growing, there is another side with poor and unfortunate people that because of poverty have no chance of getting a better life. It’s a struggle for survivial for thousands, and with poverty comes malnutrition, bad health, lack of schooling and no hope of a better job. The need for improvement for these people is great, and we’re doing what we can to help make a difference.
